So about a week and a half ago Karys, Jack, and I were waiting in the car for Dad to grab some food. Jack started to get a little fussy, so to entertain him I started doing various animal noises: "Kitty Cat! --Meooooow. Puppy Dog! Woof woof!" Soon Karys chimes in ideas, and I do the noises for those, too.
Her: "Horsey!"
Me: "Naaaaaayyyy" (My horse impression is truly awful. It's just not one of my skills.)
Her: "Piggy!"
Me: "Oink oink."
Her: "Donkey!"
Me: "Heee-aawwww!" (My donkey impression is fantastic and, in my opinion, totally makes up for the horse.)
Her: "Lobster!"
Me: "..."
Her: "Mom! Do a lobster noise!"
Me: "Um. Well, baby, I think they just have pinchers...they don't really make a lot of noise" (hand claw motions)
Her (clearly not satisfied with hand claw): "Yes they DO, Mom. Do a lobster noise!"
Me: "Um..baby. I really don't think they make a lot of noise."
At this point Dad's back in the car, and he totally backs me up on the whole lobster-being-quiet thing, although he finds it amusing that she was able to stump me so easily (Why couldn't she have asked for goat?! I could have done a goat!).
Fast forward to last night. We took the kids out with friends for a Friday night adventure, part of which included a mini petting zoo. There were goats (yes!), little ponies, tiny pigs, and... "MOM! Lobsters!" Lobsters? Really? And then I saw...roosters! That whole time, she meant roosters! It all clicked for me, Dad and I got a pretty good laugh out of it, and then I did what every good Momma should do:
"Okay, Karys. Lobster! Cockadoodle--dooooo!"
